Profile

The Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), part of NUI, Galway is a leading research institution in semantic Web and semantic Web services. DERI is dedicated to researching the technologies that will underpin the next generation of the World Wide Web 鈥 the Semantic Web. The Institute, which SFI (Science Foundation Ireland) has supported since 2003 with a 鈧12 million grant over 5 years, aims to develop the software that allows the Internet to become a platform where organizations and individuals communicate more easily with each other to carry out commercial activities and provided value-added services. In those 5 yeras, DERI has grown to over 100 members, comprising of senior researchers, post-doctoral, post graduate, outreach and administration personnel.

Contribution to FAST

DERI in the space of 4 years has already achieved a remarkable record in FP6 projects, such as the recently successfully completed DIP project, coordinated by DERI. DERI is a core partner in several other ongoing and completed EU FP6 projects such as Knowledge Web (NoE), ECOSPACE, NEPOMUK, ASG, EASTWEB – Asia Link, SemanticGov, SUPER, and TripCom. DERI’s main contribution to FAST is its know-how in Semantic Web Services platforms such as WSMX, as well as ontology engineering.

Kassel University

Kasselhttp://www.uni-kassel.de

Profile

The software engineering group of Kassel University has a strong background in CASE tool construction. We participate in the Fujaba project that develops a UML based CASE tool with an emphasis on behaviours specification and code generation.

Contribution to FAST

Besides our skills in CASE tool construction, our group has extensive experiences in scenario-based technologies. We are co-founders of the workshop series on Scenarios and State Machines (SCESM). In this area, we have studied various notations for the specification of scenarios and we have developed a scenario-based approach called Story Driven Modelling, SDM. SDM employs so-called storyboards for the semi-formal specification of use cases. From these semi-formal use case specifications we systematically derive test scripts, class diagrams, and behaviours specifications. These techniques will directly contribute to this proposal. Within this project, we will transfer our experiences to the field of Web services and service oriented architecturesUniversity of Kassel will contribute research and development in the conceptual modelling of the semantics of Web services and gadgets. In addition, we will contribute to the semantics definition for FAST storyboards. We will also participate in the development of the FAST tools and contribute our experiences in CASE tool construction, semantic definition and code generation.University of Kassel has a long record in research on scenario-based technologies. In this project, we apply our experience to a new application domain. This will in turn contribute to the whole field of scenario technologies.

Cyntelix Corporation

Cyntelixhttp://www.cyntelix.com/

Profile

Cyntelix Corporation is a seasoned software company focused on semantic Web, artificial intelligence and knowledge progression technology to address government and business needs related to the acquisition, retention, exploitation and management and large amounts of both structured and unstructured data. From its inception 5 years ago, Cyntelix has provided Semantic Web Solutions that search, analyze, and summarize structured and unstructured data to Fortune 500 companies and government agencies. The applications enable organizations to improve the accuracy and distribution of real time information, and reduce both direct professional cost and IT overhead costs. In recent years, Cyntelix developed knowledge management systems for organizations dealing with rules and regulations, inspections, training and certification and more complex systems that involve user interface such as emergency response and vulnerability management and response systems.Cyntelix is involved in multiple government projects, and contract awards as well as commercial application and technology development projects with leaders in the industry like Intel, Computer Science Corporation, and Hewlett Packard. These development projects support standard, scalable, enterprise platforms for XML/RDF formats and Semantic Web Architecture.

Contribution to FAST

Cytenlix has a rich background in semantic Web technology and collaboration platforms, providing significant contributions to FAST in both technology and industry experience. Since the company鈥檚 inception, its goal has been to build software that significantly reduces cost, number of errors and the time involved in conducting research, data entry, analysis and reporting which traditionally has relied heavily on human interaction. Cyntelix has extensive experience in building user interfaces that enable data integration of heterogeneous data which automate these process significantly increasing reliability accuracy. One of the key values that Cyntelix has to offer is its enterprise software platform that supports collaborative environments with software for content management, object management, ontologies (OWL & RDF), a rules engine, add semantic driven search, classification, and summarization. The Cyntelix team began 5 years ago building semantic Web based applications and has a strong history in this market space with large commercial organizations as well as government agencies. The company is interested in standardizing collaborative software systems for increased exposure to outside markets, and access to resources and development tools. Cyntelix鈥 team implemented virtual workspaces based on collaborative platforms for global companies, and will leverage the experience of theses programs as well as bring candidates to the program for utilization in the formation of project testbeds. The company proposes to identify and maintain a community of practice for collaborative working environments. This will be achieved by involving clients in the FAST project, with possible involvement ranging from simple review and dissemination meetings to full-fledged project involvement.
